Book Report: November

Oh, electricity, how I've missed you. How many days did I go without posting? About five I think.

I'm going to share with you the books releasing this month that I can't wait for. I'll be including the title, author, release date (for the U.S.), links for pre-order, the publisher, series name, my thoughts, and summary of the synopsis. So, let's get into it.

UPDATE: Out Now!
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi will be released in the U.S. on November 15, 2011, in hardcover and eBook formats. It is available for pre-order online on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

Published by Harper Collins, the print format has 342 pages.

Shatter Me is the first installment in the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi.

I have already heard such good things about Shatter Me. I'm becoming quite obsessed with dystopian, and I'm far too eager to get my hands on this book.

Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting as The Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel

UPDATE: Out Now!
The Other Side of Dark by Sarah Smith will be released in the U.S. on November 15, 2011, in paperback. It is available for order pre-order online in paperback, or in hardcover and e-book formats, on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

Published by Atheneum, the print edition has 320 pages.

The first two books in this series fascinated me enough that I'm willing to purchase the third. The characters are my main concern with this series, but I love the story and will continue reading it.

Since losing both of her parents, fifteen-year-old Katie can see and talk to ghosts, which makes her a loner until fellow student Law sees her drawing of a historic house and together they seek a treasure rumored to be hidden there by illegal slave-traders.

Law Walker knew Katie Mullens before she was crazy. Before her mother died. Law knows Katie’s crazy now, but she’s always been talented. And she keeps filling sketch pads even though her drawings have gone a little crazy as well—dark, bloody. What Law doesn’t know is that these drawings are real. Or were real. Katie draws what she sees—and Katie sees dead people. People who have died—recently, and not so recently—in accidents, from suicide, even a boy who was trapped in a house that burned down more than 100 years ago. And it’s this boy who makes Law want to get to know Katie all over again. So what if his dad doesn’t want him dating a white girl? So what if people think Katie is dangerous? The ghost boy is hiding a secret that Law needs to know—and it’s much bigger, much more shocking than anyone ever expected.

UPDATE: Out Now!
Legend by Marie Lu will be released in the U.S. on November 29, 2011, in hardcover and eBook formats. It is available for pre-order online in both formats on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

Published by Putnam Juvenile, the print edition has 336 pages.

Legend is the first installment in the Legend series by Marie Lu.

Did I mention that I was obsessed with dystopian? Because I am. Very, very obsessed. Legend sounds awesome, and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic's wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic's highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country's most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.

From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths - until the day June's brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family's survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias's death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.

Full of nonstop action, suspense, and romance, this novel is sure to move readers as much as it thrills.
